Beatles Tribute in London, Ontario

I went downtown yesterday. On the way there was a detour on the bus route, so I would have to walk a couple of blocks to get back on the bus (LTC is something else, I tell you!). I really didn't think much of the detour or why it was happening, but as I walked a few blocks I could here music. It appeared that there was a concert taking place at the library! (Which defeats the purpose of a librarian's "Shh").

As it turned out, the people gathered in front of the library had their backs to the building and were in fact looking up! The music was coming from the roof of one of the buildings! I regreted not bringing my camera that day! It was amazing!

Yuri Pool and some friends were celebrating The Beatles' 40th anniversary of a performance just like that! They were recreating what The Beatles had done years before in London, England. In fact, Yuri Pool and friends went as far as to play the original set list.

The air had a great vibe that day in downtown London, Ontario. People were humming, singing and even dancing to the music. As I waited for the bus down the street from the concert, people waiting with me started singing "Don't Let Me Down" as the next bus came along. (We were hoping that this one would stop, since the other one didn't. As I say, LTC is wonderful)
I was glad to be kicked off the bus and get the experience of the music and the amazing vibe, something that brought commuters together as they stood in conditions that were less than perfect. Yuri Pool and friends, thank you for that day! I was glowing inside for the rest of the afternoon!

GOOD's "The State of the Planet"

GOODMagazine, a channel on youtube has recently released a video recapping 2008. It speaks specifically of the States and the advances the country made, but it also speaks of the state of other parts of the world. It is an update on what's gone on recently (some things I knew, others I did not) and this video ends with a hopeful note welcoming us to 2009.
I hope that with Obama as president, tauting "Change" and "Yes We Can", the world will become a better place. A new place. A place of change. The US has been a very powerful country in the past and I hope that they can use the power they retain for good.

On Conveying Feeling

I had a thought just now about the ability to make a person feel what you felt. Say you are standing at the edge of a cliff. You want to convey that feeling to people who are not with you. You have a camera with you, so you take a few shots. You also record some video. But weeks later when showing the photos and video to people you know, you find that they just don't understand. Is there any way to make someone really comprehend the feeling without being there? Pictures show the physical beauty, video can show what pictures, plus a pan can show the great expanses...

Writing about it can help a person to know emotions that might be felt... But there is nothing like being there. It makes me think abut other places that this applies. I makes me understand more of what it is about to be human. Embracing being human has helped me to understand it more, but I still have a long way to go.

More on this later.
